About Malta

Malta is situated within easy reach of many Mediterranean international yachting spots as well as having direct connections with major airports in Europe. Blessed with a mild climate and moderate temperatures, Malta provides a rich cultural heritage, unique history and an enviable indented coastline of 200 kms surrounding 316 square kilometers of land offering several yacht marinas and anchoring spots offering diverse environments from secluded coves to buzzing bays with minimal fuel consumption.

Furthermore, Malta offers advantageous V.A.T and yacht registration rates whilst providing duty free bunkering and supplies for overseas cruising.

The Maltese VAT department has launched guidelines on VAT payments applicable to yacht leasing with the aim of this structure is that of assisting yacht owners to pay VAT on their yachts calculated on the percentage of the time that the vessel is deemed to sail in EU waters and for them to obtain a VAT paid certificate at the termination of the structure. The raison d’être of this schedule is that it is anticipated that yachts of a certain length spend only a part of their time in EU waters and a far greater time outside same. This is translated into 30% of the yacht’s time within EU waters and the 18% VAT rate would be computed on only the 30% of the value of the lease services.
